Mt. Cook

When I travel around NZ and overseas I have found this to be the most convenient size for plein air, on the spot painting. I have painted this scene many times over the years. This was one of those special sunny late winter days with no wind and a cloudless sky. Normally I set up at the visitor center at the head of the lake. This time I drove perhaps five km along the road beside Lake Pukaki and found a convenient carpark. I was fortunate to have it to myself for the first hour or so. By the time others had arrived to marvel at the view I had pretty well finished.
