Welcome to my new website. It has been a long time coming.
I hope that you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed bringing it together. It is primarily about Plein Air Painting.
I had been painting outdoors for many years before I was informed by those who know about these things, that that was what I was doing. I was a plein air painter! I felt a bit like the man who was delighted to discover that he had been speaking prose all his life.
It had always seemed to me to be the natural way to paint.
In fact, I wasn’t much good at it. That came a lot later in my life.
The desire to paint is one thing. Doing it is another.
And doing it well is yet another thing entirely.
In this blog, I will be explaining something about plein air painting for those who are interested. Why I do it. What you might gain from it. And perhaps how we can do it more effectively.
Landscape painting is an ongoing process of discovery. About yourself, the subject before you, the techniques involved, and indeed the nature of light, painting, pigments and aesthetics.
There is no last word. There is mastery, but always new challenges. I have discovered a lot, certainly enough to realise how much there is yet to learn.
You might like to think of this website as a sort of Drop-in Centre for Plein Air Painters, both aspiring and experienced. A place to share both the pleasures and the problems of direct painting outdoors.
